The Average Pharmacist Salary in Today’s Market

Pharmacists are medical professionals required to undergo unique preparation and training.  Because they are dedicated the community for overall health and patients rely on the advice and knowledge of a pharmacist, they are held to a high standard and must be an information resource of the highest caliber.  Licensed pharmacists are medical specialists in the science and clinical use of medications and prescribed drugs.  With new medications and advances in clinical studies, it is extremely important for pharmacists to undergo routine continuing education to keep up with changes in technology.  While it can take between 4 and 6 years to complete the educational requirements set to be a licensed pharmacist, once you have received licensing you can appreciate a high earning potential.  A pharmacist salary will depend on several factors, however is much higher than the salary of many other entry-level careers.

While many entry-level positions pay between $30,000 and $50,000 per year, an entry-level pharmacist can expect to make between $75,000 and $150,000 per year depending on the region they work, the type of pharmacy they are working in and the demand at the time.  As experience is earned, earning potential will increase, making this an extremely profitable career.  While pharmacists must have a familiarity of concepts and practices in the pharmaceutical field, most knowledge needed to take on the responsibility can be taught in a pharmacist licensing program.

Studies have shown the average pharmacist salary to date is $111,000 in the United States.  This median average combines the high-end salary of $120,000 and the low-end salary of $102,000 making this a far range to expect.  Candidates must have a passion for biotechnology, science and math skills.  In addition to knowledge, candidates should be able to work well with technicians, physicians and patients.

In today’s economy many individuals are considering going back to school to change careers.  A career in pharmacy not only have high earning potential, but also makes an impact in the community.  With flexible schedules and the chance to make a difference, a position in pharmacy has become an attractive idea for many.  Lower costs of schooling are also a benefit as you will not accrue much schooling debt.
